Then comes Montreal, itself... big and busy... trendy in one area and
antiquated in the next. At least here, the signs are in both
French
and English. The people are friendly and helpful and talkative --
and everyone
smokes. I don't think there's any such thing as a non-smoking
restaurant here. We want to see so much, but there's simply not
going
to be enough time.
By the way, if you make reservations at the Comfort
Suites on Crescent
in Montreal, it's now called the Quality Inn. They didn't bother
telling us that on the phone... so we drove around the block three
times, looking for something that didn't exist.
And remember the old movies (like James Bond) where
people in
Europe drive like maniacs and there are no actual lines between lanes
of traffic? It's all true... We were cut off by taxi cabs,
mostly.
It's a good thing we live in Dallas. We know how to drive
aggressively. The parking for the Quality Inn was interesting,
too.
There's no free parking at the hotel. But it only cost us $36 CAD
for
the two nights. (That's about $31.50 USD.) OUCH!
Below, you see the view of the Montreal skyline,
first. Second, a picture of Wade from the balcony of our hotel
room on the 14th floor (actually 13th, but they're
superstitious). I think he's afraid of heights. I got that
impression when he stepped out to take a picture and fell back into the
room... Then he took my picture (no. 3). It's difficult for
people to understand that I'm afraid of falling, but NOT afraid of
heights. Well, even if you don't understand it, you'll believe it
when you see me flirting with death from a balcony high above the
nightlife of Montreal. (Not really... but it sounded wonderfully
dramatic, didn't it?) Pic 4 is of the view from the balcony,
although you can't really see what we saw...
